Ashford Castle in Cong, County Mayo, has been recognized as one of the most unique hotels in the world by Tripadvisor.
The prestigious travel platform recently announced the winners of its annual Travelers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Hotels, which highlight the top-rated accommodations around the globe based on reviews and ratings from the Tripadvisor community.
This year, Tripadvisor introduced a brand-new subcategory celebrating the world’s most distinctive and unforgettable stays—dubbed the “One-of-a-Kind” hotels. These properties are described as “offbeat stays” that are truly “unlike anything else out there.”
Ashford Castle earned the impressive distinction of second place in this new category, just behind the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, India.
Tripadvisor praised the historic Irish castle hotel for its “stately canopy beds, manicured grounds, and slew of regal activities,” including falconry and archery. The hotel was also commended for being “kid-friendly,” making it a suitable destination for families as well as luxury travelers.
Dating back to 1228, Ashford Castle was once the home of the Guinness family and is now Ireland’s first and only Forbes Five-Star Hotel. It offers guests a truly unforgettable experience steeped in history, elegance, and world-class service.
The Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title represents the highest level of excellence in the travel industry. Only the top one percent of Tripadvisor’s 1.6 million hotel listings receive this honor, which is based on a consistently high volume of exceptional reviews over a 12-month period.
