Kempinski Hotels Appoints New CEO for Brand Expansion in Luxury Hospitality Sector

Barbara Muckermann has been named the new CEO of Kempinski Hotels. Prior to this role, Muckermann led Silversea Cruises, a part of the Royal Caribbean Group.

Muckermann expressed her excitement about joining Kempinski Hotels at such a crucial time for the brand. She is eager to contribute to the next chapter of the iconic brand while respecting its rich history. She also looks forward to working with her global colleagues to further associate the Kempinski name with individual luxury.

René Nijhof, chairman of the Board of Directors Kempinski Hotels S.A., praised Muckermann for always being at the forefront of luxury. Her ability to enhance the guest experience while also increasing profitability for leading travel brands made her the perfect choice to lead Kempinski Hotels. Nijhof highlighted that Muckermann’s dynamic and forward-thinking approach will be crucial as they usher in a new era of luxury for their brand. Notably, Muckermann is the first woman to lead the company in its 127-year history.

Muckermann brings over 25 years of hospitality experience to her new role, having boosted sales and profitability at companies such as Loro Piana, MSC Cruises and NCL. Born in Germany and having lived in Italy, France and the U.S., Muckermann is multilingual, speaking five languages. She holds a Doctorate in Political Sciences and Economics and a joint MBA from Columbia and London Business School.

Kempinski currently operates 82 hotels across 36 countries. The group plans to add another 34 hotels and residences to its portfolio in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa in the upcoming years.
