Purdue Professor Co-Authors Groundbreaking Book on the Future of Hospitality
Xinran Lehto, a professor in Purdue University’s White Lodging–J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, has co-authored a visionary new book titled Transformative Hotels of the Future. The book, published by Routledge and released on June 2, 2025, explores how hotels can evolve beyond their traditional roles to become powerful agents of change in society.
Co-written with Ksenia Kirillova and Henri Kuokkanen, Transformative Hotels of the Future presents a forward-thinking perspective on the hospitality industry. It imagines a future where hotels are not just places for lodging, but also serve as centers of innovation, environmental responsibility, community engagement, and personal development for guests, employees, and local residents alike.
The book is divided into three sections:
– The first part examines how hotels can foster personal transformation for individuals.
– The second part explores the role of hotels in driving positive change within communities.
– The final section discusses how hotels can contribute to broader societal and environmental sustainability, offering a renewed purpose for the industry.
Blending current trends with speculative insights, the authors aim to inspire hoteliers, educators, students, and researchers to reimagine the potential of hotels in shaping a better future. The book challenges readers to think beyond today’s technological and societal limitations and consider the deeper impact that hospitality spaces can have on people and the planet.
