**San Francisco Hotel Workers Strike Nears Resolution for Some, Continues for Others**
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — After nearly three months, the hotel workers’ strike in San Francisco is nearing an end for thousands of employees, though the battle continues for others.
A tentative agreement has been reached between Marriott and 2,000 striking hotel workers, just as the busy holiday travel season is in full swing. However, the strike remains ongoing for employees at Hilton and Hyatt hotels, who have yet to secure a deal.
The proposed agreement with Marriott outlines a four-year contract set to expire in 2028. It includes key provisions such as preserving workers’ union health insurance plans, implementing pay raises, and introducing new protections against understaffing and increased workloads.
“This is a really important moment for us,” said Lizzy Tapia, a striking worker. “We’ve seen the industry try to take advantage of the pandemic, similar to past crises like the 2009 economic downturn and 9/11, where permanent cuts to staffing and services were made. We’re pushing back because we believe in this city and want to see business thrive here.”
Thursday marked the 89th day of the strike. In a statement, Marriott expressed satisfaction with the new labor agreement, signaling progress for its employees.
Negotiations are still underway for hundreds of workers at Hyatt and Hilton hotels, leaving their futures uncertain as the strike continues.
