Iconic 1920s Residential Hotel on Upper East Side, New York City, Set to Reopen with Stunning Interior Design

This September, Corinthia Hotels will re-open the doors to Upper East Side icon The Surrey in what marks its first New York City hotel.

Sandwiched on the corners of East 76th Street and Madison Avenue, The Surrey was first built as a residential hotel in 1926 and welcomed a host of historical figures through its doors, from celebrities to politicians. In its latest iteration, The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, is aiming to quickly re-establish itself as one of NYC’s most prestigious addresses.

The hotel’s 70 guest rooms and 30 suites will be designed by the celebrated Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, which also lent its creative eye to London’s whacky Broadwick Soho, Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York and Nubeluz bar at The Ritz Carlton NoMad New York.

Specific details on the interior design remain limited for now, but computer-generated images show light-filled guest rooms with neutral gold-accented color palettes. Four ‘theme suites’ will also be designed to celebrate the bridges of Central Park.

Ahead of the opening, The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, has also announced glitzy Italian joint Casa Tua – which has current restaurants in Miami, Paris and Aspen – as its exclusive food and beverage partner. As well as a signature restaurant, Casa Tua will also operate a lounge-style bar and an exclusive members-only club.

Other hotel facilities will include The Surrey Spa, which will have two treatment rooms, a steam room and sauna, a salt relaxation room, and a gym.

“The addition of this property represents a significant milestone for Corinthia Hotels and we are both proud and grateful for our partnership with the Reuben Brothers whose vision has made this possible,” says Corinthia Hotels CEO Simon Casson.

“This much-anticipated opening allows us to bring to New York our commitment to luxury, elegance, and exceptional service with the brand’s first property in North America. We look forward to welcoming guests to experience the timeless charm and refined sophistication of The Surrey, an iconic Upper East Side establishment.”
