The First MICHELIN Key Hotels in the UK & Ireland: Hotels, Distinctions, and Guide

On October 1, 2024, The MICHELIN Guide unveiled its new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the best hotels in the UK and Ireland. This marks a significant milestone in the Guide’s ongoing effort to refresh its hotel selection, which now features over 5,000 properties worldwide. These hotels are far more than just places to sleep—they are destinations that enhance the travel experience, each carefully evaluated by MICHELIN’s hotel experts across five key criteria: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for money, and their overall contribution to the guest experience.

The MICHELIN Keys, much like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, represent the highest level of excellence in hospitality. After extensive evaluations by MICHELIN Inspectors, the 2024 selection for Great Britain and Ireland includes 14 Three Key hotels, 37 Two Key hotels, and 72 One Key hotels. Below, you can explore the newly awarded hotels and learn more about what makes them stand out.

#### The Three Key Club Across the UK and Republic of Ireland
Fourteen properties have earned the prestigious Three Key distinction. These include The Gleneagles Hotel in the Scottish countryside, Adare Manor and Ballyfin Demesne in Ireland, and Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Lucknam Park, and The Newt in Somerset in the English countryside. London is home to several iconic Three Key hotels, including Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Savoy.

#### London: A Hub of Hospitality Excellence
London boasts nearly a third of the hotels on this list, with eight Three Key hotels and many more in the One and Two Key categories. The city’s hotel scene is incredibly diverse, offering everything from opulent luxury at the Bvlgari Hotel London and Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park to Georgian and Victorian-inspired properties like Flemings Mayfair and The Langham. The variety and creativity of London’s hotels make it one of the world’s top destinations for hospitality.

#### Beyond the Cities: Unique Hotels in the Countryside
While London, Edinburgh, and Dublin are well-represented, the countryside, seaside, and smaller towns also offer some of the most unique and eccentric hotel experiences. For example, the Artist Residence Oxfordshire and The Swan Southwold showcase quirky, irreverent designs. In Ireland, stately countryside hotels like Cashel Palace and Dromoland Castle offer a more traditional, yet equally luxurious, experience.
